Interesting that New Orleans is mentioned as a grocery market. There are zero Krogers in New Orleans because enough locals there support old-school family-owned supermarkets, of which there are several: Dorignac's, Zuppardo's, Breaux Mart, to name a few, and when A&P sold off its Sav-A-Centers in N. O. after Katrina, they were bought by Rouse's, a family chain based in Thibodaux LA. Winn-Dixie has been a staple in New Orleans for years, but Albertson's didn't last long there at all.

Until those chains are ready to expand into AL, MS and AR, then Memphis doesn't have much of a chance.

It could seem like we have a lot of choices in grocery stores but there are not many Aldi's, SuperLos, Costco's, WholeFoods about rather there are a lot of Krogers (apparently of all kinds). I grew up in Memphis when we also had A&P's, Big Stars (plural), Big D's, Food Centers, Montesi's, as well as Seessel's and Krogers.

I live in Midtown and when I say Kroger, I mean the Summer Ave Kroger. I haven't been in the "Midtown" Kroger in ages.

I'm just praying that the new Kroger in Poplar Plaza will not be just a new, expanded building, but a better-managed and fully-manned Kroger. The Customer Service Desk has always been horribly understaffed, the management couldn't care less about real customer service and getting asked-for products in the store, and the nice employees are treated poorly by management.
Kroger has a great opportunity with this new store.
