I think what clarion is saying, which I to an extent agree with, is that the actions of people, especially historically, have to be viewed through the lens of their surroundings and up-bringing.

Take religion as an example, and let's take a societally accepted odd religion like scientology. If you're brought up to believe that religion as gospel truth, you're likely going to believe everything about it.

I know you hate researching anything, but, in some of my past posts, here and on the other site, I have bashed George Washington, the founding fathers and even, Abe Lincoln for their hypocritical ways when dealing with slavery.

As a body, I wasn't that harsh on the founding fathers because I understood their predictament. If they had included banning slavery in the original constitution, there never would have been a United States of America, at least, not at that time.

That is why I said he was exonerated; I didn't say that the massacre didn't happen and that he was the commanding general.

Hell, the commanding general of that captain that was convicted of the Viet Nam village massacre was exonerated, but, the massacre still happened.

For that reason alone, there should be no monument to Forest and/or his troops. Can you find a monument of General Sherman in Atlanta, or for that matter, anywhere in the south?
