I have issues with TFA. On the surface, the idea is OK except that they are putting these teachers in the most difficult situations with very little support.

If you're referring to the recent kerfuffle, I'd say that they ought to first hire seasoned professionals instead of TFA teachers (TFA being an org that I don't support), even if that means spending more for better teachers. Students in this type of neighborhood have different requirements, so having a principle with experience leading in this environment would also be a start.

You mention ethinicity, and I think the other thing of note is the fact that 2-3 generations from now the number of people who consider themselves of mixed race will be significantly higher.

The barriers between races are falling down with each generation, and that includes an increase in dating and marriage between races.

We won't be around for it, but 200 years from now, people will have a hard time defining whether they are black, white, hispanic, Asian in this country. The lines are going to continue to blur over time to the point where racial identity won't be a way of defining boundaries socially as many do today.

As to the discussion on culture, AP is right.

This is being culturally responsive. Although Dr. Seuss probably does the best job of all authors of presenting a diverse cast of characters that any child can relate to.

You are a master of changing things in such a subtle way that one would hardly notice it. We were discussing culture in the way that different people, races, ethnic groups see or perceive them.
