It is certainly true that General Hooker's camp was, as a Union general once said, "a place where no gentleman would chose to go and where no lady dared to go."<br>
<br>
I am not sure, because I never saw and definitive proof, that the term "Hooker" was first used to describe prostitutes because of the women allowed aroung his camp, but it does make sense. I know these women were called "Hooker's women, or just "Hooker's".

First, simply based on fact your argument it fails; Africa was not a country. Africans were not selling “their own”, they were selling their enemies, just as the Greeks and Romans once did.

Good information on the generals after the war. Especially General Porter Alexander.

I told you that you didn't have a clue. General Hooker's statue is in Boston for the reason that you say.<br>
<br>
Hooker's monument is there because he allowed women, prostitutes and the like to travel with his command.

Probably for the same reason that Boston does not have a statue of Robert E. Lee in their city, but does have a statue of Joe Hooker, who Lee crushed .<br>
<br>
He was the more brillant military leader, but he was not from around those parts and Hooker was.<br>
<br>
Does that answer your question, and also answer your question as to why Forrest's statue is here and not in Nashville?

No, the Africans would not resent the American Blacks, because the american blacks would not have gained an advantage unjustly.

I am particularly proud of a kin who taking one look at Shiloh turned around and headed back to the Hatchie Hills where the states rightists feared to pursue.

If OTP returned to live in interior Africa, would he be resented by other Africans because of his relative greater wealth? Would they complain because of his relative higher learning and management skills?

I think you lost me when you describe the US victory in Mexico as providing Mississippi more suitable land for labor-intensive farming. I can't quite figure that one out.<br>
<br>
Also, wouldn't the indignant band of radicals ( I presume you mean the Abolitionists) have been black?<br>
<br>
It is very interesting to note that slavery as an economic system was failing badly by the late 18th Century, and Adams was probably right.
