I don't know if any of y'all have tried writing doggie tickets to pit bull tugging gangsters in the projects before, but I have. So before you demand ACO's fulfill all their obligations, you might want to familiarize yourself with what they entail (pun intended).

John Coryat - as Jeff (and the article) said, there is already a license law on the books! How about we start by holding MAS responsible for enforcing it consistently?
I agree with Dr. Towers' idea that the fee for unaltered animals be raised (significantly!), but then again, if an owner is irresponsible enough not to spay/neuter, what makes anyone think they'd run out and get a license for said animal?

This idea is ridiculous. We already have a law that requires dogs to be 'licensed' every year when they get their rabies vaccination (which is also required by law)!

As already noted, the city needs to require all Animal Control Officers to do their jobs and enforce all of the current laws (license, cruelty, etc.), or those employees need to be replaced with people who will actually do the jobs they are being paid for.

Taxpayers should be complaining to the city about the hundreds of thousands of dollars in salaries to Animal Control Officers who are not doing their jobs and nothing is being done about them not doing their jobs!

Memphis does NOT need this! Sanders is right - we ALREADY have a dog license law and we do NOT need to be funding Omaha by paying them to do this - what we already do - FOR us!

What Memphis - the Mayor and City Hall - DOES need to do is hold Animal Control Officers accountable for NOT doing their jobs because they are not enforcing the current law.

Like Sanders said, there's already a pet license law. The only purpose of this is to generate revenue for the Omaha-based company trying to sell it to the city.

When I moved to this area over 10 years ago I was surprised that there wasn't a licensing requirement for pets here. Every other place I've lived requires this and it makes total sense.
