All's Fair

In retrospect, it probably would have been better to ask Mark Lovell what isn't new at this year's Delta Fair and Music Festival, which is taking over Agricenter International September 4th through September 13th.

So what's new? Medieval jousting, shows by FreakShow Deluxe, a comedy monkey show, pig races, ostrich races, a livestock exhibit, MMA fights, and bellydancing, to name just a few.

But rest assured, the Delta Fair, now in its third year, will also have the attractions visitors have come to expect, such as rides, a beauty pageant, motorcycle stunts, a classic car parade, and fair food. On the music front, Keith Sykes returns with his Songwriter Celebration (country superstar Vince Gill will be joining him), and the music line-up includes Boys Like Girls, Eddie Money, the Bellamy Brothers, Alexis Grace, and others. The Crossroads Stage will feature local acts, and the last day of the fair will be dedicated to Christian music.

Another popular attraction that's returning is the Red Neck Olympics, which includes bobbing for pigs' feet, a mullet contest, and an armpit serenade. "I'm proud to say I'm a redneck," Lovell declares. "A redneck enjoys life and has a good time."
