Re: “Three (Quick) Thoughts on the Lawsons' Exodus

I disagree with some things said, mainly in the comments. First, Penny is NOT going to become the Memphis head basketball coach IMO. Why would he want to? Yes, he bleeds blue, but he doesn't need the money, he has the glory and he loves to play golf. He can work high school and AAU and it not interfere too much with his personal life. A head college basketball coach doesn't have a lot of free time most of the year.

Secondly, Tubby has been to some NCAA tournaments but other than the championship at Kentucky, what highly sought after recruit has he signed? That's not him. He probably should be an NBA coach.

The bigger question here is how does Memphis get out of this mess?

Re: “The Great American Trailer Park Musical

This is a wonderful show with an excellent cast. If you're looking for a funny musical that is well done, definitely go see it!

Re: “Hollins Redux: Discrete Thoughts on the Fallout

Good article and pretty much how feel in this situation with one caveat. I agree process is something that is controllable. I also don't have a problem using all of the "tools" one can have to analyze players/talent. But if the "philosophical" differences between the front office and Coach Hollins are about the front office using "analytics" to tell Coach Hollins who to play, then I don't think that is wise, for any coach to be forced to play someone solely on those numbers. At the same time, I think any coach these days needs to know or should know that this "process" of using analytics to evaluate players is one of the tools front offices as well as coaching staffs need to incorporate with all of the other tools. This is why I personally hope that someone tells both sides that they need to compromise. Lionel should coach and have some autonomy but he must understand that the front office will use all of the tools at their disposal to make player decisions and there may be a time to consult one another on who needs to play.

Re: “The Coaching Endgame? — Griz Give Hollins Permission to Shop Around

Since the "moneyball" analytics have come into vogue, how many teams have competed, not won but competed, for a championship? This statement doesn't mean that analytics don't have a meaningful role in helping determine a player's worth or how they are progressing. But also doesn't mean it is the end all to force feeding a coach the decision on how to play or how long etc. It is a measurement tool but only one tool, not the only tool. I think Lionel could adapt; he did pretty well with the revolving door of players he had this yr. and other years. It seems to me there should be some compromise on both sides.

Re: “Griz-Clips Game 3 Preview: Lessons from Los Angeles

Yes, this game should have started at 7 p.m., which would let the east coast go to bed earlier and the west coast could have an extended happy hour. As for the game, I agree with Mr. Herrington on most all of his article. The one addition I would make is that Bayless needs to show up. He is the only bench player who can help with the points production deficiency other than if Q-Pon can finally find his shot.

Re: “Bar Louie

As someone earlier said, if you don't like it, don't go. I was at the square in its heyday and I for one am glad they are there. The food is good and they are going to have an awesome patio once it is completed. Most mid-towners love patios, so if nothing else, you can have a cocktail and talk about all of what you don't like outside, away from us brain dead ones watching the tv's. I have also noticed that Mr. DeSalvo takes a very strong interest by answering posts here and on Urbanspoon, which I think is a good step towards excellent customer service. Welcome Bar Louie!

Re: “Burly's Burgers Fries & Shakes

Went and tried this not long after they opened. Definitely a good burger, tastes like one you make on the grill at home. Fries were good as well. Next time I'll try one of the shakes.
