State senator Steve Cohen won a solid victory over Jake Ford and Mark White, taking 60 percent of the vote in the race for 9th District congressman. State-wide, Harold Ford Jr.'s quest for the senate fell 47,000 votes short. Despite winning more than 60 percent of the vote in Shelby and Davidson Counties, Ford lost to Bob Corker, who made up lots of ground in rural East Tennessee. It ain't over yet in the District 9 congressional race. State Senator Steve Cohen, the Democratic nominee, is still favored (especially after last week's double-mayor endorsement coup), but the independent candidacy of Jake Ford has acquired some stout Ford-family backing.
