DeAngelo Saves the Weekend

It was a tough weekend for Memphis sports fans, as the U of M Tigers fell to a dismal 1-10 by losing to Houston and the Griz lost a pair to Dallas. But there was something to cheer about ... DeAngelo Williams ran for 114 yards for the Carolina Panthers against the St. Louis Rams.

"Any back in the country that would have been in the backfield for us today would have rushed for 100 yards," Williams said. "They were just doing that good of a job up front."

Aw shucks, De, you're just being modest. For more, go here.

  • Charming DeAngelo

A huge group of writers was gathered around rookie DeAngelo Williams' locker Wednesday. We pick up the conversation in mid-sentence.

"It's not a dark side," he's insisting. "My top five movies of all time would probably be, um, at No. 1 would be the remake of the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre.' Okay, at Number 2 and 3 would be 'Saw 1 and 2.' But coming in at 4 would be 'The Butterfly Effect.' That's really good, just the concept. At No. 5 is 'Shrek 2.' What's so funny? Those are my top five favorite movies of all time."

For the record, DeAngelo Williams is charming the crap out of the North Carolina sportswriting world. Read this hilarious account of a day in the Panther locker room here.
