Di Anne Price & Her Boyfriends at Huey’s Poplar

A sharp barrelhouse piano player and a superb jazz/blues singer, veteran local performer Di Anne Price is as sure a thing as there is on the Memphis music scene. The lightness and wit of Price's performance style feels like a function of wisdom and experience. Hers is a version of traditional jazz/blues that combines carnal with playful, sophisticated with soulful. Price hasn't recorded in a while, but she has four albums under her belt — Wild Women, To Hell With Love, A Good Man Is Hard To Find, and Reekin' With Love — all worth seeking out. And you can catch her live frequently, including this week with her backing band, which typically includes Jim Spake on saxophone, Tom Lonardo on drums, and Tim Goodwin on bass. Di Anne Price & Her Boyfriends play the East Memphis Huey's (4872 Poplar Avenue) on Sunday, August 14th. Showtime is 8:30 p.m.
