Eye on the Prize

Expect plenty of hustle and flow at Grand Casino Tunica this weekend: The resort is hosting the 2006 Southern Entertainment Awards, slated for Sunday, with myriad rap-related panel discussions, conferences, and showcases, scheduled Thursday through Saturday. Traditionally held in Nashville, the four-day conference allows rap aficionados to rub shoulders with a veritable who's who of the crunk and buck set, including stars like 8Ball & MJG, Granddaddy Souf, BG, Killer Mike, Yo Gotti, and holy hip-hop performer Canton Jones (pictured), while would-be playas can get advice from industry insiders like Rap Coalition founder Wendy Day, Universal Records VP Steve Rifkind, and high-profile publicist Jane Higgins. Event coordinator Janiro Hawkins II says that he hopes Tunica will be a long-time home for the SEA, which will draw an anticipated 2,000 to 2,500 attendees from across the South. Tickets for the conference are available via Ticketmaster. For more information, go to SouthernEntAwards.com.
