Fly on the Wall

What war?

A recent AP article says that GOP senatorial candidates Bob Corker, Ed Bryant, and Van Hilleary don't think the $400 billion war in Iraq, which has cost the lives of 2,500 United States servicemen, all but wrecked the United States' international reputation, and destroyed President Bush's poll numbers, will be much of a factor in next month's Republican U.S. Senate primary. Instead, the candidates are focusing their time and energy on much more pressing issues such as "abortion, immigration, and federal spending." Did we mention that the war has cost $400 BILLION? Hey, look over there -- is that a gay couple burning a flag in church?

Stacked

Your Pesky Fly doesn't pay nearly enough attention to beauty pageants, and the identity of the current Miss Tennessee might have remained a mystery if not for a press release from the Memphis Motorsports Park. According to the missive, Blaire Pancake, who won the title of Miss Tennessee a mere two weeks ago at the annual competition in Jackson, will serve as grand marshal of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series O'Reilly 200 on Saturday, July 15th. We can't help but wonder if she gets many "flat" jokes or if motorsports enthusiasts are more inclined to shout, "Check out those flapjacks!"

Player's Club

Last week, Memphis police captured Telly Savalas Johnson, a 22-year-old man suspected of shooting into a minivan and injuring a 5-year-old girl. Too many Kojak jokes can make any man crack.
