Fly on the Wall

Southaven mayor Greg Davis lost his bid to represent Mississippi's First Congressional District. Nevertheless, his election-night "extravaganza" sounded like a good time. The invitation promised "food and fun for everyone" including Allie's Awesome Chicken Nuggets, Macy's Munchies, and the unfortunately initialed Kendyl's Kandy Korner. Was white sheet cake a specialty?

Gang Signs

Unusual graffiti on a North Main building near Jack's Food Store may represent the rise to power of a new street gang that uses chalk instead of spray paint to mark its territory. Experts are conflicted as to whether or not this gang wants to steal guns and 401(k) plans or to provide Americans with near-universal healthcare.

Revisionist History

And now for some completely inexplicable words of advice for President-elect Barack Obama from John Hindraker, one of the conservative blogosphere's most prominent online voices: "Obama thinks he is a good talker, but he is often undisciplined when he speaks. He needs to understand that as President, his words will be scrutinized and will have impact whether he intends it or not. In this regard, President Bush is an excellent model. ... Bush never gets sloppy when he is speaking publicly. He chooses his words with care and precision, which is why his style sometimes seems halting. In the eight years he has been president, it is remarkable how few gaffes or verbal blunders he has committed. If Obama doesn't raise his standards, he will exceed Bush's total before he is inaugurated."

No punchline required.
