Endgame '09

This is the big week when Memphians choose their next mayor from a crowded field of active candidates who range from the completely bland to the utterly bizarre. In the past several days, even many of the long-shot candidates have stepped up their game in the hopes of grabbing a few last-minute votes. Here's a quick rundown of what the least likely to succeed have been doing:

• Leo Awgowhat told Eyewitness News' Jeni DiPrizio that he liked smoking pot and suffered from multiple personality disorder. When asked what he would do to lure people back to Memphis and increase the city's revenue, Awgowhat said he would "start growing pot ... use the Pyramid and grow the best pot in the world and sell it to people. It's a tax windfall."

• Robert "Prince Mongo" Hodges appeared on Fox 13's Good Morning Memphis where he was berated by the show's host, Curtis Jay, for wearing his usual garb, which includes a long blond wig, goggles, and a rubber chicken. "Many times in life part of it is just playing the game. And the game is you've got to give the look," Jay scolded, as if a suit was the only thing coming between Mongo and the mayor's office.

• Memphis wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler, who has surprised many with his sincere dedication to the city of Memphis, made a Thursday-night appearance at the Levitt Shell where he introduced the popular Memphis band Lucero as the "Luceros," effectively losing all support in Midtown.

Hear & Obey

According to Fox 13, Dr. John O'Connell, a man accused of fondling his hypnosis patient, told police he was massaging his patient's feet and shoulders to help her relax. He also told police that the woman, under hypnosis, told him it was okay to lift her shirt.
