Fly on the Wall

Verbatim

"Like I'm in the twilight zone": That's how Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, aka Gangsta Boo, the Drum Squad rapper and former member of the Three 6 Mafia camp, described her recent brush with the police. In an interview with Rapstarpromo, Boo said she had nothing to do with the July 23rd armed robbery of a Dollar General store in Olive Branch, Mississippi. She described the charges as "real deal Holyfield movie conspiracy type shit," saying "These crackers in Mississippi are trying to build a case that ain't gonna happen. If the glove don't fit, you must acquit."

Black like Me[mphis]

Memphis music is bringing black folks and white folks together again. Sort of. According to The New York Times, "Some theatergoers to the Broadway musicals Memphis and Fela! have remarked that there are many black people attending those shows."

Times reporter Patrick Healy described this kind of diversity as "unusual given the recent demographics of Broadway." Last season only 2.4 percent of Broadway theatergoers were black, while 73.7 percent were Caucasian. I guess they don't call it the "Great White Way" for nothing.

Weird Headlines

From The Commercial Appeal: "Driver+Deer+Driver+Cow = Weird Night in Memphis." The story could have been about golf in the barnyard or it could have been about the year's wildest porno. But it was mostly about traffic accidents.

Weekly Watchdog

If you're not following WREG reporter Mike Matthews on Twitter, you're missing out. Between posts about his weight, sex life, and hair loss, the gruff reporter occasionally even tweets about the news. An example of Matthews' 140-character prose: "I'm a bit grumpy. NO SLEEP. I have an air mattress that developed a leak and went flat, lifeless. Sort of like sleeping with my ex wife."
