Fly on the Wall

Tweet Heart

It's no secret. Your Pesky Fly is addicted to the Twitter. And this week's best Memphis-related tweet was posted by @RiverCityMud in response to former Mayor Willie Herenton's recent media free-for-all. In particular, RCM was responding to Herenton's astonishment that anybody "gives a damn" about conditions at the Memphis Animal Shelter. The tweet: "Herenton admits he's not fit to be dog catcher." Political experts seem to agree that the politician pissed away a major portion of the pet hoarder vote this week, and they won't come crawling back.

Burnin' Spud

The emphasis is mine. Otherwise, it's best to let this product description speak for itself: "The first in a series of Elvis-themed Mr. Potato Head collectibles, this 7-inch tall figure is the perfect size for playing or proudly displaying. The Spud King comes with a variety of components to mix and match: a jumpsuit, shoes, hair, two arms, a guitar, and a face with the classic Elvis Presley 'snarl.'" The Presley-themed potato head will be available in time for Elvis week.

Zoo Boosters

The Memphis Zoo thinks it can attract a million visitors this year and is hedging that bet with a series of special offers, including free kiddie rides for members, discounted admission, and product tie-ins. Based on recent trends, the Fly team thinks the zoo should consider additional promotions such as "Flash Mob Friday" or "Show Your Gun to a Monkey Week."
