are two of the many ink-on-plaster faces that greeted volunteers cleaning up the Goyer-Lee House in Victorian Village last Sunday. (See the story on this page.) The mansion once housed the Memphis Academy of Arts where, judging by all the doodles and this note to be quiet during Mr. Anderson's class, writing on the walls was encouraged.

Man Appeal

Last week, Chris Peck, the The Commercial Appeal's lushly mustached editor, wrote a nerdy little sports column about the economics of college athletics. His second and third sentences: "Women, you may be tempted to stop reading this now. Men, you know what I'm talking about." At least he didn't redirect female sports fans to a soothing essay on the importance of proper grooming.
