Fly on the Wall

Elvinomic Indicator?

According to the BBC, the name Elvis fell off the list of the top American baby names for the first time since 1954, the year Elvis Presley cut "That's All Right" at Sun Studio. This raises an important question for Memphians: Will all the newly minted Jacobs and Isabellas visit Graceland when they're old enough to go on vacation? Or will they go to Chattanooga to visit the home of Teen Mom stars Maci and Bentley?

Breaking "News"

In what should be good news — if they're not being sarcastic — Fox 13 reports that the levees protecting Memphis are "working."

That should mean that much of the city will remain "safe" and property will be "protected" from floodwaters. Or perhaps just the opposite.

N'YCQ

The menu at Southern Hospitality, Justin Timberlake's new upscale rib joint in Manhattan, includes fried chicken livers, barbecue nachos, crawfish-and-cheddar hush puppies, pork ribs (wet or dry), and rosemary grits. The Wall Street Journal got into the spirit of things, noting, "There are salads, too, but why would you want one?"

Verbatim

Has Hollywood spoiled Memphis' octagon champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson? The ultimate fighter, who played B.A. Baracus in The A-Team, acknowledged that fighting hurts a whole lot more than movie-making. "As soon as movies start paying more than I make to fight, I'm gone," he told ultimate fighting website Five Knuckles. "It don't hurt to make movies. ... Every day I'm, like, man, I can't wait until I get another big movie.'"
