Fly on The Wall

Great Thou Art

Two of the world's strongest posthumous brands are joining forces. Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. and Israel Theme Tours have announced The Elvis Presley® Holy Land Tour for May 12th-21st, 2013. According to press materials, Elvis fans from around the world will "follow in the footsteps of Jesus, cruise the Sea of Galilee ... float in the Dead Sea, roam the beaches of Tel Aviv, and experience baptism in the Jordan River." The tour also includes a stop at the Elvis Inn Restaurant, an Elvis-themed diner and souvenir shop, in Abu Ghosh.

Remembering Jimmy

According to a report in the Memphis Daily News, Bud Chittom and Preston Lamm will be opening a new bar on Beale called Dancing Jimmy's, named for one of Midtown's more colorful street people (now deceased). "Dancing Jimmy was a buddy of mine that would go around to the bars, and he liked to dance by himself," Chittom told MDN. "He was just a cool guy that everybody kind of admired; he was kind of like the party-starter." And believe us, nothing got a party started like Jimmy's uplifting and often-repeated motto, "Give me a dollar!"

Verbatim

From Prince Mongo's Facebook profile: "Spirits The New York Daily News reports a Memphis police officer had sex in his squad car with his microphone on, 30 officers heard it, police scanners broadcast it, how do you spell TEAM SPIRIT!!!"

Straight Dope

Last week the MPD intercepted a half-ton shipment of marijuana valued at a million dollars. Police director Toney Armstrong speculated that a shipment of that size would probably attract robbers, and the bust probably prevented some violent crime that might have happened had the shipment arrived at its destination. Armstrong did not comment on the bust's potentially devastating impact on the junk food economy.
