Fly on the Wall

Stacey Triumphant
State legislator Stacey Campfield was the big winner of Nashville Scene's Boner Awards (honoring the worst of the worst) for things like blaming AIDS on "one guy screwing a monkey," talking about President Obama's "Shuck and Jive," and threatening journalists for quoting his blog. Speaking of his blog, in the wake of the Connecticut school massacre, he's been getting a jump on next year's Boner Awards by posting deep thoughts like, "I wish our schools were as safe as a gun show" and "Liberals love Darwin but want gun control for their own protection."

West of Mordor
According to The Wall Street Journal, director Peter Jackson, who in recent years has devoted his attention to all things elfin and Middle-Earth-ish, has described West of Memphis, his recent documentary about the West Memphis Three, as his most important film ever. Although many critics were initially confused by Jackson's flashbacks to Tolkien's The Silmarillion, Andy Serkis is almost certain to win an Oscar for his performance as the Hernando DeSoto Bridge.

Twinkie Trip

Did you hear that sound like a giant sponge being torn in half? That was the collective heart of Memphis Twinkie-lovers breaking over news that the final shipment of cream-filled sunshine is bound for stores in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana.
