All around the country today, there are reports about last-minute dirty tricks and problems at the polls with new voting machines. Here in Memphis, another kind of "machine" is trying hard to hang on.
Check out Harold Ford Sr.'s "Approved Democratic Ballot." There's only one tiny problem: The official 9th District Democratic nominee, Steve Cohen, has been replaced by Independent candidate Jake Ford. Go to the Daily Docket for more.
As U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr. keeps running hard, in the final weeks of his race for the U.S. Senate, his father, former congressman Harold Ford Sr., regularly hits the road for him. "He tells me, Dad, go here, go there, and I do it," says the "proud papa."
Ford the Elder also says some much more controversial things about religion ("Memphis is a Christian city"), his son Jake (whom he oddly called "Jake Jr."), and Jake's opponent, Steve Cohen ("This man thats running against Jake wants some sex shops running in downtown Memphis on a Sunday!"). For a transcript of a recent speech by the senior Ford, go to "Political Beat."
