Tonight s art openings are at: Java Cabana for My Point of View, Christian folk art by Mario Childs; Midtown Artist Market Gallery for an exhibit of watercolors and pen-and-ink drawings by Dani Harris; Rhodes College s Clough-Hanson Gallery, where there s a closing reception for CPG: Come Visit, works by the Collaborative Projects Group of 20 artists from around the country; Lisa Kurts Gallery for Rare Earth, landscape paintings by Jeff Muhs; and at Memphis College of Art for an MFA exhibition and lecture by New York Times photography critic Andy Grundberg. If you want to drop 500 bucks, tonight s Art of Good Taste Patrons Dinner and Grand Auction at Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is a black-tie affair with a six-course dinner cooked up by celebrity chefs (charge includes all other wine events), and is followed by tomorrow night s winter/spring season The Art of Good Taste, with silent and live events. Or you could Sleep Out on the Mississippi tonight, which includes camping out on the south end of Mud Island and enjoying canoeing, kayaking, music, dinner, and breakfast. The next morning there s a Mud Island River Park Opening Day Relay Race with teams of five competing for prizes. The fabulous sing-and-dance troupe WaToto de Afrika is performing at the U of M Michael D. Rose Theatre tonight. Sones de Mexico is performing an all-acoustical, all-danceable, all-authentic folk music concert tonight at Buckman Performing Arts Centre. There s a Stout CD-Release Party at Newby s. The Memphis Grizzlies take on the Portland Trail Blazers tonight at The Pyramid. And last but certainly not least, he s back. Yep, after a lengthy recuperation from an accident last year, Chris Scott and the Chris Scott Band are back at Poplar Lounge. Get over there and give him a huge welcome back.
