G-Side at the Hi-Tone Cafe

Two of 2011's most heralded new underground hip-hop acts will team up at the Hi-Tone this weekend, as Huntsville, Alabama's G-Side make their Memphis debut alongside the city's own Cities Aviv. (They will pair up again in a few weeks for a show in Brooklyn sponsored by the popular music blog Brooklyn Vegan.) G-Side combines MCs ST 2 Lettaz and Yung Clova in a distinctly Southern rap sound that's also unusually soulful and progressive, a style that's earned them some perhaps too presumptuous comparisons to early Outkast. But they're still one of the most distinctive and promising acts to emerge from the region recently. The show will also serve as a record-release show for G-Side's latest album, Island, which will drop that day. G-Side and Cities Aviv play the Hi-Tone Café on Friday, November 11th, with Redeye Jedi, Wukasch, and Leroy & Goodmane. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $10.
