Go With the Flow

Back in May, a group of local artists piled into canoes for a firsthand look at the Wolf River. Guided by members of the Wolf River Conservancy (WRC), the artists were given a tour of the river's boardwalks, sandbars, bell-bottomed cypress trees, and native plants and wildlife.

After their river experience, the artists — 70 in all — created paintings, drawings, and other works inspired by the Wolf. That artwork will be auctioned off on Saturday, December 5th, at the WRC's first annual Wolf River Fine Art Auction at Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects. Proceeds will benefit WRC's efforts to preserve and protect the Wolf River.

In addition to a silent art auction, the event will have a live auction of river trips, jewelry, and even a handmade wooden canoe. Jim2, a duo made up of musicians Jim Spake and Jim Duckworth, will be playing jazzy Christmas tunes, and the open bar will feature local beer from Ghost River Brewery and wine from the Old Millington Winery.

A preview reception on Thursday, December 3rd, at 6 p.m., features a presentation of Wolf River photographs by artist Tom Fox. The auction works will be up for viewing at Askew Nixon Ferguson from December 1st through December 4th.
