Grizzlies/Bobcats Preview 

And the Gay versus Morrison Battle Begins...

The Grizzlies welcome the Charlotte Bobcats to FedExForum tonight. After losing to the New York Knicks in the season opener Wednesday and with a really rough stretch of the schedule ahead of them, the Grizzlies probably need a win tonight to have any hope of avoiding a dreadful start. Here are some things to watch for tonight:

1. The Rookie of the Year Race: Starts tonight! Rudy Gay and Charlotte’s Adam Morrison figure to be among the prime contenders for Rookie of the Year honors this season. (Though both could be looking up at Portland’s Brandon Roy all season.) As the two highest-rated small-forward prospects in last summer’s draft, Morrison and Gay were workout and draft-projection rivals, with both mentioned as possible #1 overall picks up until the day of the draft.

    Former University of Memphis and Memphis Grizzlies point guard Antonio Burks failed in his bid to join former college teammate Earl Barron on the roster of defending NBA champion Miami Heat.
