'I FEEL A RANT COMING ON'

'I FEEL A RANT COMING ON'

(The following piece was circulated by the author to numerous people, mainly Memphis-area Democrats, on the author's personal email list.)

Hi there...for those of you on the List who don't live in Tennessee, you may want to skip this...otherwise, here we go!

As you may know, former state Senator Andy Womack withdrew from the Democratic gubernatorial race today, leaving us with former Board of Regents head Charles Smith, Knox County AG Randy Nichols, and....well, you know....HIM.

That's right, the guy with the billion-dollar bank account and the 10-cent fiscal policy, Phil Bredesen.

Why the anger towards the man presumed to be our front-runner, you ask? Considering that the man has repeatedly publicly stated that we do NOT need an income tax to fix our budgetary problems, it should be self-evident. How, then can we do it? Management, you say, Phil??

Hogwash.

Let's speculate and say he wins the primary and then whips Van Hilleary (a man with the [same] depth of thought as our President) in the general election. He has gone on record as saying that we don't need an income tax, so when he gets in there and discovers (Quel Horreur!) that we MUST have an income tax, he's going to go down and down hard. That, I don't mind; what I DO mind is that he's going to take the rest of the Democratic Party in this state with him. This is especially true, I believe, in Middle Tennessee.

I'm not asking him to come right out and say that getting an income tax is the first thing on his agenda, but, for Heaven's sake, DON'T RULE IT OUT BEFORE YOU SEE WHAT THE PROBLEMS ARE!!!!!!!

We have to think long-term about the fiscal health of this state (God knows, the GOP doesn't, and doesn't care, either) because no one else will.

Therefore, to those of you on my list who ARE supporting Phil, go to him or someone close and tell them to tell him to BACK OFF. If he tries to match Hilleary in an I-can-kill-government-faster-than-you-can race, we ALL lose.

From a devoted Democrat,

Steve
