Jam On It

Most of the time you go to concerts to experience the music, but for the Holiday Jam concert this weekend at the Mid-South Coliseum, there are at least two other competing rationales. First off, as a benefit for the good folks at MIFA, it's a chance to help out a fine organization that provides help to Memphians who need it most. Second, it's a chance to see what kind of crowd will be drawn to a diverse bill that starts with the acoustic blues of William Lee Ellis, ends with the chaotic Southern crunk of rap stars the Ying Yang Twins (pictured), and fills the middle with local rock bands as disparate as metal-heads Saliva, college rockers Ingram Hill, and hip-hop soul fusionists Free Sol.

The Holiday Jam. 5 p.m. Saturday, December 17th, at the Mid-South Coliseum. Tickets are $25, with a suggested donation of two canned goods. Call 525-1515 for ticket information.
