Jump Back Jake and The Echo-Friendly

When: Fri., Jan. 7 2011
For “Jump Back” Jake Rabinbach, 2010 was marked by touring as guitarist for the New York-based Francis & the Lights, who opened for Drake, Ke$ha, and MGMT, and seeing Open Five, his film collaboration with director Kentucker Audley, hit film festivals (where it won top prize at Indie Memphis) and have a successful Internet launch. But now that the calendar has flipped, Rabinbach is kicking off the new year by focusing back on his own music. Rabinbach’s namesake Memphis band, slightly refigured and rechristened Jump Back Jake & the Echo-Friendly, released a four-song Internet EP, Still Not Sorry, last year and will make its local debut in support of the new release this week at the Buccaneer. Recorded at brothers Jake and Toby Vest’s local High/Low studio, Still Not Sorry is somewhat of a departure from Jump Back Jake’s more muscular R&B and swamp-rock sound. It’s a softer, more intimate record, more folkish pop. The “new” band is similar to the old one, with Jake Vest and Greg Faison returning on guitar/bass and drums, respectively. (Jump Back Jake bassist Brandon Robertson played on the recording but is not part of the live band.) Additionally, Rabinbach’s Open Five co-star Shannon Esper has been added as a vocalist. A collection of duet recordings is the band’s next project, and they will be debuting those songs at this show. Jump Back Jake & the Echo-Friendly play the Buccaneer Lounge Friday, January 7th.
