North Mississippi Allstars, The City Champs

When: Fri., Nov. 26 2010
Though one of the signature Memphis bands of the past decade, the North Mississippi Allstars haven’t been nearly as active over the past couple of years, with brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson busy with other projects: Guitar hotshot Luther signed up with the Black Crowes as a hired gun and formed the South Memphis String Band with Alvin Youngblood Hart and Jimbo Mathus; Cody did a turn in Craig Brewer’s $5 Cover and formed his own band, Hill Country Revue, which put a somewhat heavier spin on the Allstars sound. But the Dickinsons and longtime bassist Chris Chew come back together this week for a concert at Minglewood Hall, where they’ll be joined by sometime tourmates the City Champs, an ace local instrumental trio that recently released the terrific second album, The Set-Up. The North Mississippi Allstars and the City Champs play Minglewood Hall Friday, November 26th. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. — Chris Herrington
