Rock 'n' Soul Museum Honors Al Green and Willie Mitchell

The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum hosts its second “Memphis Music Salute” reception tied to the “50 Years of Soul” celebration.

On Thursday, March 22, from 5 until 7 p.m., the museum’s “Memphis Music Salute” reception will honor two legendary performers who raised Memphis’ famous Hi Records to its pinnacle: producer, musician, and arranger, Willie “Papa” Mitchell and superstar recording artist, Rev. Al Green.

The museum will present each with a plaque, an autographed duplicate of which will be placed on permanent display in the museum, alongside the plaques for the two 2006 “Memphis Music Salute” honorees, The Bar-Kays and Three 6 Mafia and 2007 honoree Isaac Hayes.

Immediately following the reception, Mitchell and Green will be recognized at center court at the NBA Memphis Grizzlies home game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Tickets for the “Memphis Music Salute” reception are $50 per person, and can be purchased by calling (901) 205-2536. Sponsors for both events include Memphis Charitable Foundation, the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau, Blues City Café, and D. Canale Beverages.
