Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium in Oxford, Mississippi, celebrates barbecue past and present

The Southern Foodways Alliance "documents, studies, and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the changing American South." Each year, the SFA Symposium in Oxford welcomes chefs, writers, artists, scholars, and gourmands from the South and beyond to chew over a certain theme. This year's "Barbecue: An Exploration of Pitmasters, Places, Smoke, and Sauce" was a natural fit for food-focused Memphians. We went to check out the scene and came back with our bellies and brains full of barbecue.
