SPELLCHECK SHRUGGED

SPELLCHECK SHRUGGED

Quite a bit of mail pours into the Fly s lovely glass house, pointing out all of the typographical errors made on a daily basis by our many local publications. Sadly, typos happen to everybody -- the Pesky One included -- so all but the most hysterical mistakes go unreported. But lately, The Commercial Appeal has been mak ing typos like Little Debbie makes snack cakes, and the time has come to share. From a CA profile of the band Chess Club: Chess Club has taken a more serious turn adding base player Amy Brooks May we assume that Miss Brooks sits in the corner gluttonously engaging in a variety of self-gratifying vices? And if so, how does this somehow make the band more serious? From the same profile: Mixing rock rifts with samba, they all come together to make an unpredictable sound. So what exactly does it sound like when rocks are torn asunder? But wait, there s more. From the Mid-South Fair s concert listings: Saturday: Lee Greenwood, country music star and American patriot. Technically speaking, this isn t a typo and the conservative country lounge singer does have an album titled American Patriot ... Coming soon: sonic pioneers and psycho killers, the Talking Heads! From the Playbook: It s the fourth anniversary of the South Main Art District s Trolley Night, and appropriately, along with the usual galleries and shops on South Main, Huling, Front, and G.E. Patterson open from 6 to 9, some with opening exhibitions, a new gallery, Glasshouse 383, debuts and there s a party and fund-raiser to celebrate No: 50, the 50th issue of Number: An Independent Journal of the Arts. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that is all one sentence. Faulkner would be proud.
