1 Voters will be confronted with as many as 150 different choices when they step into the booths for the August 3rd election. And just to make it more confusing: The county will be using brand-new electronic voting machines, which voters have never seen before. If you don't vote early, you might want to bring a snack and a copy of War and Peace.

2The Memphis and Germantown police departments have purchased special armored vehicles that are both bomb- and bulletproof. They are supposed to transport SWAT teams to the scene of a crime, but considering how many children have been shot in Memphis lately, maybe they should be used as school buses.

3Police discover a second body in the weeds growing at the former site of the Mall of Memphis. We can remember when the largest shopping mall in Shelby County opened -- not so long ago, really -- a glitzy place with hundreds of nice stores, a spacious food court, and even an ice-skating rink. We never imagined it would be torn down and serve as a dumping ground for murder victims. Not exactly what we would call progress.

4Forest Hill Funeral Home declares it will not honor thousands of prepaid burial policies because it doesn't have enough money. You know, sometimes we don't have enough money either, but if somebody has already paid for something, it's theirs. That's how the free-enterprise system works.
