The Shakes by Modern Convenience

Hardworking and underappreciated local noise rocker Mike Bibbs' latest release under the Modern Convenience moniker continues on the project's familiar trajectory of highly abrasive but tuneful garage-punk, with a few new embellishments. The production values are up slightly, and Bibbs' herky-jerky drumming has become more robotic and rhythmically sound, providing a more stable foundation for his frequent detours into wall-of-guitar-feedback chaos. Highlights include the dark and unexpectedly moody "So What" and the synth-laden opening track, "Metallic Hearts."
