Tigers Bounce UAB, 71-60

The Memphis Tigers overcame a rare off-night by freshman point guard Tyreke Evans with balanced scoring from the four other starters to beat UAB in Birmingham, 71-60.

Doneal Mack led the Tigers with 17 points. Robert Dozier (15 pts., 10 rebounds) and Shawn Taggart (13 pts., 11 rebounds) had double-doubles, and Antonio Anderson had 16 points, as Memphis pulled away late to beat their strongest CUSA rival.

Evans was held to 8 points (on 3-14 shooting) and had 9 turnovers. But the Tiger defense held UAB scoring leader Robert Vaden scoreless on 0-17 shooting from the field.

The Tigers extended their CUSA winning streak to 55 games, and won their 19th straight game since their last loss on December 20th. Memphis is 25-3 overall, 13-0 in CUSA, clinching the conference regular-season title.

Box score.

  • Revenge Match: Griz Host Wolves Tonight

After losing 108-98 in overtime last week in Minneapolis, the Grizzlies seek revenge tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves. It's the first meeting in Memphis between the teams since their draft-day trade that netted the Grizzlies O.J. Mayo in exchange for Mike Miller and fellow rookie Kevin Love.

Grizzlies fans are justifiably feeling good about the trade, but will feel better with a win tonight. Chris Herrington has a preview up at Beyond the Arc and will be live-blogging the game tonight.
