In these troubled times, a relaxing trip back to the psychedelic 1960s might do the soul some good. And what better way to bring back the free-love era than with a night of classic Jimi Hendrix music?

In this year's first installment of the Rebirth of Soul Concert Series, the Eugene Gales Band will honor the late, great guitar master in its musical tribute to Jimi Hendrix at the New Daisy on Saturday, March 21st.

As a member of the 2008 Experience Jimi Hendrix Tribute Tour, Eugene Gales played Hendrix standards alongside original Band of Gypsies members Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell. Expect to hear classics such as "Purple Haze," "Hey Joe," and "All Along the Watchtower."

The show opens with a choreographed performance set to "Foxy Lady" by the dance group Soul Angels, and artist Jamond Bullock will create a painting while the band plays.

Proceeds from the show will benefit the Memphis Rebirth Foundation, which provides scholarships for high school students to study art in college.

Rebirth of Soul Musical Tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Saturday, March 21st, 8 p.m. at the New Daisy Theatre, 330 Beale (246-7454). $25
