Not to sound cliché, but this weekend’s gone to the dogs.
Canines can let their fur fly at the annual Woofstock festival in Overton Park on Saturday, September 25th. Humans are also allowed at the dog fest near Rainbow Lake, which will feature music by Guy Venable & the Honky Tonk Beatniks, Whose Army, and Brad Webb & Friends.
Don’t have a dog? You can leave with one. Memphis Animal Services, Dogs 2nd Chance, Belly Rubs Bassett Rescue, and several other groups will be on hand. There will even be rescued rabbits and ferrets up for adoption. Food options will include selections from the Crepe Maker and the Candied Apple Lady for humans and treats from Three Dog Bakery for pups. Also on the schedule are a blessing of the animals and a silent auction.
There are plenty more dog-centric events over the weekend. Guardian Angel Pet Rescue is holding its Wet Nose 5K Run and Dog Walk at the Bert Ferguson Community Center on Saturday. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Leave Fido at home for the Paw Prints Gala at Central Station on Friday night. The annual party features live music by the Living Daylights and silent and live auctions to benefit the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County.
Take a dog home from Anthropologie’s “Sit. Stay. Love.” event at the Shops of Saddle Creek on Saturday. The Germantown Animal Shelter will have dogs for adoption, and customers will have a chance to decorate kennels to be donated to the shelter. — Bianca Phillips
