Overview:

Oxford, Mississippi garage punk legend Tyler Keith goes truly solo on his latest, "I Confess."

Oxford, Mississippi garage punk legend Tyler Keith is a man of many talents. In addition to rocking like a hurricane with The Neckbones and leading his band The Apostles to rock and roll church, he’s also a writer, a poet, and a filmmaker.

For his latest record, I Confess, out now on Black and Wyatt Records, he went truly solo, holing up with a vintage Tascam Portastudio 4-track and playing all the instruments to create the authentic ’90s lo-fi sound. On “I Should’ve Known It Would End Like This,” Keith laments “Everything ventured/everything lost” while overdriven guitars wail.

Keeping with the DIY vibe of the album, TK also conceived and shot the music video himself. โ€œThe song comes from a lot of nights in motel rooms across the country, particularly out West. Ironically the video was filmed in the streets of Lisbon on a rainy night. I carried a lot of old paperbacks and thin poetry books with me. And watched a lot of detective stories and westerns and a bunch of French and British New Wave films. I’ve always loved Breathless and those movies where the camera just follows someone around. Generally film is very collaborative but it doesn’t have to be. I think trying to look good or have a professional production is not anything I’m interested in. You just need one friend to press record.”
