Memphis rockers Joybomb are back with a ripping new song and video. With the assistance of producer Matt Qualls, the band, including bassist Conner Booth, and drummer Xander Sinclair, have crafted what front man Grant Beatty calls a soundtrack for “the seduction and like-clockwork shellshock of party life on repeat.” You can get a little bit of that party life when Joybomb hits the stage at DKDC on Friday, July 31, where the band’s newest member, guitarist Doyle Schaefer, will make his debut.
Director Quinton Hickman’s spectacular animated video takes the viewer in a POV drive through the darkened city, and then goes skydiving with the car. “The video for ‘Falling Apart in the Back Seat’ is an illustration of a private moment of dissociation during a night drive. The initial approach to the video was a hybrid between a visualizer and a lyric video, but as the idea came together a narrative formed between the frantic visuals of the night drive and the falling car which is meant to echo the heart-racing “falling” feeling that often accompanies anxiety. The result is this play back-and-forth between a grounded street-lit scene and a surreal descent through the clouds, complete with fragmented 3D scanned objects and CDs that are something of a nod to the era of burning custom CDs for your car.”
Buckle up, and don’t forget your parachute.
