On the Scene at Soup Sunday

Posted By on Sun, Feb 28, 2010 at 4:54 PM

Today, I went to Soup Sunday with Flyer food writer Pam Denney and her husband Tony.

The fund-raiser for Youth Villages always draws a crowd.

It's not all about soup. Adrienne Robinson and Patrick Johnson had barbecue nachos from Central BBQ. Patrick was visiting from San Francisco.

"Strawberry cakeballs! Strawberry cakeballs!" Did somebody say strawberry cakeballs? That would be Tammy Henson, who was working the crowd for Paula Deen's Buffet at Harrah's Tunica.

We bumped into Steve Conley of Classic Hits 94.1. He showed us his secret weapon to conquering Soup Sunday: the spoon.

Don Werling braved the crowds despite having his foot in a brace for a pulled tendon. He sang the praises of the Half Shell's lobster and shrimp bruschetta.

Also among the Soup Sunday-ers: Ford Wilkinson and Lynn Mellor.

Here's Sonja Luecke, who does PR for Youth Villages. After she took a picture of Pam and me, I took hers.

When it came time to vote for "People's Choice," Pam and I both put down Cordelia's Table for its tomato basil soup in "Best Soup," while Tony voted for the Bahamian seafood chowder from Bahama Breeze. Also garnering some votes among this crowd of three in "Best Specialty Item": A Moveable Feast's roasted zucchini, garlic, and parmesan dip with homemade chips.
