Taking advantage of this oh-so-brief time before Memphis gets too hot to be outside, the Madison Hotel and Grill 83 are hosting two food-related events on the hotel's rooftop this week.

In conjunction with Memphis in May, there will be a tasting of Tunisian wines and olives oils on Tuesday, May 18th, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

On Saturday, May 22nd, at 6:30 p.m., it's "Gourmet at a Higher Level," a dinner benefitting the Memphis Farmers Market.

The wine and olive oil tasting will be led by Bill Sanders of Crush and Press. The evening will also include Tunisian and Mediterranean-inspired appetizers created by Grill 83 chef Chris Windsor. (Just a taste: mirqaz, a Tunisian lamb sausage, and falafel with harissa chili sauce.)

Seating for the tasting is still available at this writing. Cost is $35. To make reservations, call 333-1224 or go to

Saturday's event, part of the Memphis Farmers Market Dinner Tour series, is a grill out that features a menu planned around locally grown items procured from the market that day.

Expect to see beef from Neola Farms and produce from Whitton Farms. Ghost River Brewing will provide the beverages.

These dinner tours tend to sell out quickly, so act now. Cost is $45. To make reservations, call 333-1224 or go to
