On Saturday, November 19th, at 4 p.m., Majestic Grille is hosting an event that pits three local bartenders/cocktail experts against each other in a Chopped-like contest. Audience members pick the winner.

Owner Deni Reilly provides the details:

Bartenders are given a list of 6 ingredients ahead of time. The day of the competition, each bartender is given a box with 3 of the 6 ingredients (each gets the same). All 3 of the secret ingredients have to be incorporated into their final cocktail. There will be a general bar set up in the middle of the room that the bartenders can pull from. Each bartender is allowed to bring one of the following from their own bars: 1 spirit, 1 herb or fruit, 1 juice or non-alcoholic mix, 1 misc item.

Contestants so far include Michael Hughes, Joe's general manager and a frequent Flyer contributor, and Daniel Lynn from South of Beale.

In addition, Mark Cumberland of the Majestic will be leading a cocktail demo before the contest.

The cost to attend is $15 (cash only) and covers samples of the contest cocktails and the cocktails made during the demo.

Also on Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m., Angie Stewart of the local food blog Angie's Big Love of Food is leading a demo at Whole Foods on creative and Southern (!) ways of dealing with Thanksgiving leftovers.

And yet another Saturday event ... Chucalissa is hosting an afternoon of Native American snacks and movies, from noon to 2 p.m. The menu includes Cherokee Mixit stew and sweet potato bread. Among the shorts to be screened are When the Rabbit Stops Dancing, a cartoon in Chickasaw language.
