More Space for Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival

Posted By on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 10:58 AM

Fans of crawfish and elbow room have reason to rejoice: There will be more space for tail-pinching/head-sucking/whatnot during this year's Porter-Leath's annual Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival.

Pending permit approval, Riverside Drive will be closed between Union and Beale. Rob Hughes of Porter-Leath estimates adding this area to the Wagner-Riverside spot will expand the festival as much as 25 percent.

The move, says Hughes, will mean that the gumbo contest will be moved to avoid bottle-necking and that a third stage will be added.

An estimated crowd of 19,000 attended last year's event.

In other Rajun Cajun news, the Swamp will return this year. Ticketholders to this VIP tent area get all you can and drink and a place to sit(!). Tickets are $75/person, $125/couple.

And, for those thinking about entering the gumbo-cooking contest, get on it. As of this writing only two slots remain.

The Rajun Cajun Festival is Sunday, April 15th, noon to 6 p.m.
