Gina Sweat has been chosen as the director of the Memphis Fire Services Division, the first female to ever hold that position.

Sweat was selected by Memphis Mayor-Elect Jim Strickland who said while the hire is historic, Sweat was picked based on her merits.

Sweat began with the Memphis Fire Department more than 23 years ago at Station No. 1 across the street from the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She rose through the ranks and is now a division chief in the department.
