You could get free breakfast if you ride a bike to work on Bike to Work Day this Friday.

Encouraging Memphians to “lose their cars” for a day, the Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) and partner organizations will provide cyclists with breakfast at six different spots in and around the Medical District.

“The Medical District is promoting health and healthy lifestyles,” Glenn Gadbois, director of Mobility for the MMDC, said. “So promoting the benefits of cycling and other active travel choices by our leadership organizations and institutions has a direct connection to their mission.”

Gadbois recently moved here from Austin, Texas, where he first implemented a similar initiative.

“In Austin we started with a handful of stations and bicyclists, and now there are dozens of businesses, restaurants, and coffee shops vying to be involved with thousands of bicyclists participating.”

The stations here will be set up at Crosstown Concourse, the Civic Center Plaza, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Overton Park, Regional One Health, St. Jude, and the Southern College of Optometry.

Those who plan to stop by a station are encouraged to RSVP ahead of Friday.

Bike to Work Day is a part of the larger National Bike Month. See more events and rides this month in Memphis here.
