Tonight: The Memphis Reality Show Streak Continues

f401/1242945050-amd_latifah_idol.jpgA scant 24 hours ago, Memphians Lil Rounds (pictured) and Alexis Grace performed on the "American Idol" season 8 finale, sharing the stage with the likes of Queen Latifah and Jason Mraz before Conway, Arkansas, native Kris Allen was crowned champ.

Tonight, during the premiere episode of "So You Think You Can Dance," Fox is airing a montage of auditions set to the tune of "Don't Stop," written by Memphian Keelyn Ellis, an alumnus of P. Diddy's "Making the Band Four."

Factor in the Midtown musician antics highlighted on MTV's "$5 Cover," which concludes tomorrow night, and that's a heckuva lot of Memphis on the small screen. Even more remarkably, it's a lot of Memphis sans Elvis — not a snarl, a "Thank-ya-very-much," or a TCB necklace to be seen. Not that I don't love the King — it's just nice to showcase another side of Memphis music.
