Jay Reatard Doc Better Than Something To Get Local Run

After debuting as a work-in-progress at the On Location: Memphis film festival last spring and premiering as a completed work at Indie Memphis last fall, Better Than Something, the documentary portrait of late Memphis musician Jay Reatard, will get a full theatrical run here, running March 2nd through March 8th at Studio on the Square, the New York-based filmmakers announced this morning. Better Than Something will open concurrently in Brooklyn, Seattle, and Portland, and will continue to other cities in the following weeks.

Don Trip Releases New Singles in Run-Up to Guerrilla Mixtape

Memphis rapper Don Trip — of “Letter to My Son” fame — has been releasing a series of new songs in the run up to the February 24th release of his next mixtape, Guerrilla.

First there was his remix of “The Life,” a Memphis rap summit meeting also featuring established stars Yo Gotti and Juicy J along with up-and-comer Young Dolph:

Tonight (Friday, February 3) venerable local acoustic/folk venue Otherlands will offer an intriguing bill boasting three of Memphis' most exciting up-and-coming artists: The Sultana, Michaela Caitlin, and Judith Stevens.

The Sultana is a folk/alt-rock troupe reminiscent of the rootsy side of bigger indie bands like My Morning Jacket or Bright Eyes.
