More New Urbanism

A Gulf Coast town is taking a taking a page from Memphis’ own Harbor Town in its aim to recreate itself in the “new urbanism” style. Leaders of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, which was spared much of Katrina’s wrath, say they want the burg to represent the best of small-town America before sprawl and strip malls ruined the landscape. Though Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour would like to see all coastal towns rebuilt using the new urbanism concept, those devastated by Katrina, obviously, will have a harder time.
