Veteran Memphis business and political figure Jack Sammons has been named to the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority by interim Shelby County Mayor Joe Ford. Sammons, a longtime former city councilman, had served as interim city mayor Myron Loweryโ€™s CAO during the several months of councilman Loweryโ€™s tenure as mayor last year.

The six-member Airport Authority is appointed jointly by the mayors of Memphis and Shelby County and oversees operations of Memphis International Airport.

Sammonsโ€™ long governmental experience, coupled with his close relationship with FedEx founder Fred Smith, is expected to make him a major player as an Authority member.
