The truth is out there. What it is, exactly, we can’t say. Where it
is also is TBA.
Here’s what we do know: The Memphis Mystery Tours will host its
first walking tour on Saturday, August 22nd. According to Kaylah
Holland, who founded the company with her mother, Sherry, it’s a tour
as well as a game and a show. A day or two before the tour,
ticket-holders will receive a call and be given a location somewhere
downtown. At that rendezvous spot, an incident occurs, and participants
will be tasked with solving the mystery. Clues will lead them from one
point to another, and along the way, they’ll meet up with characters
both trustworthy and nefarious.
Holland says she and her mother always have enjoyed themed parties
and the like, or anything that involves interaction. They knew that
other cities had such tours and decided to start one in Memphis. Mother
and daughter spent three months working on the tour’s plot points. The
crew includes about six actors, but there is no guide for this two- to
three-hour tour, because, Holland says, “It would ruin the surprise.”
Two more points: This is not a historical tour, and, to keep the
mystery family-friendly, no one is murdered.
Holland acknowledges that the unknowns about the tour could make it
a tough sell. “I know it’s a risk,” she says, “but it’s well worth
it.”
